The Last Update of 2025!!
Hey all!
I'll admit that I've not worked much on this game since CGJ part 2, but I decided to get one more little update out based on some of the feedback that I got and based on the things that were bothering me the most in my own playthroughs.
The most noticeable change is that I completely redid my tileset to make the floors and walls different shades, and to have different levels of rooms be different shades as well! I also went in and added a little more detail to the walls while I was at it. This is something that I've wanted to do for quite a while and I think that it actually makes my game look a lot more like how I always imagined it would.
I've also changed most enemy hit animations to have them flash white instead of flash invisible, based on the feedback that players thought that the enemies had i-frames. This one was pretty surprising to me, but I guess I'm just old and not up on the latest visual slang. I hope that this will encourage players to be more aggressive in combat and pursue combos, which is what I am designing the combat around.
Finally, in economic news, I've added a coinpurse item! Once acquire, you will drop the coinpurse on death and be able to recover up to 50 coins if you retrieve it! I think that this strikes the right balance between letting players keep some more progress between runs while also not letting them grind too heavily. The armor price has also been dropped to 30 coins for anyone who wants to take another crack at fighting Elliot.
That's really all there is other than some little fidly changes in my never-ending magnum opus - the opening cutscene. There are still lots of known bugs around in all their glory. The Dodgers signed Mets closing pitcher Edwin Diaz in free agency, which is pretty exciting? But most importantly, I want to thank everyone who has been playing my game and talking to me about it. When I started messing around with Godot earlier this year I could have never imagined that anyone would have connected with or enjoyed what I was trying to make, but I feel that that has definitely happened! This will be the last update for a while, but I hope to have the first level completed around March. But just know that what I have right now, even if this is all that there ultimately is, is really due in large part to the support that I've received for this game, and I really appreciate it.
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to you all,
Dan
